Standard you’ll get 3TB of RAID-5 storage, a Blu-ray drive (profile 2.0), Gigabit Ethernet, 4GB of memory, a Intel E8500 Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz processor, ATI All-In-Wonder 3650 (with HDMI / DVI / Component / VGA video outputs), and a slick Logitech DiNovo Mini bluetooth keyboard / media center remote.

Goodbye Mice Hello Touch Screen

Touch Screen technology is obviously the new craze as far as providing an alternative interface in the world of PC computing. One day, they may even replace the standard keyboards or mice, two PC components that are needed to enjoy the privileges of using a PC.

At the moment, the real issue is cost. Technology comes with a price and apparently this is one aspect that is the stumbling block of consumers who want to make the jump to new technology. Actually that has always been the case. As far as which technology to use, here is one design that is bound to point us towards that concrete proof of PC interface shifts.

Proposed to be sold as a stand-alone unit the HP LiM (Less is More) concept is set to feature a 19? transparent touch OLED screen along with a wireless keyboard. The touch screen slides down to create a more ergonomic touch experience and easy navigation. It also features a virtual trackpad thus cutting down on mouse costs.

It does seem enticing to look forward to promising tomorrows. But the matter of cost is also another thing to consider. During these times of economic recession, all we can do is wait for economies to improve. If not, all of these will remain concepts and restricted to people who can really afford them.

Net PC Tablets On The Rise

This year, don’t be surprised if you see a lot of people shifting from the traditional PC or even laptops to smaller versions such as these Net Tablets. Techie freaks continue their ways as far as going with the fruits and trends of modern computing and by all means, it is all shifting towards smaller compact and portable PCs that can deliver the same aid that the seemingly ancient PCs can provide.

Netbooks are going to be hot this year, with both Dell and Sony — among others — trying to get in on the Asus Eee PC and its success as a cheap, functional laptop for light computer use. So how about a net-tablet? That’s basically what this modded Eee PC is, worked over by a Japanese modder who ditched the keyboard and turned the Eee into a handheld ultraportable tablet computer.

This trend and shift in attention is something that was expected a long time ago. The transition is obviously taking place and despite a heavy price tag for these devices during times when people should be watching their finance, technology still has its way of enticing them to spend on them.

Further, this is not restricted to private consumers. Even the corporate world is shifting to the aids provided by advanced technology and it seems that they see them as enhancers towards better business operations. Then again that was what these things were made from weren’t they?

Are We Ready for Cardboard Casings?

It is a fact that we have to find an alternative to the usual aluminum casings of PCs these days but it has to be also consistent on supporting the various components of a PC. For one, the consideration should be broadened. It is not just a case of being environmentally friendly. It needs the deliberation on after-effects like sustainability as to how far they can accommodate the PC requirement we know of.

Apparently this is not to downgrade the use of cardboard casings that were unveiled recently. The intent is good but still, are they feasible and effective. And based on the reviews they are biodegradable meaning they can disintegrate after years of use. If that were the case, would it not be contradicting the actual savings of a PC in terms of casing requirements? Also, would it not be something that could alter the performance of owners since it may eventually lead to deformation and exposure of vital parts?

The time element is not covered the way that it should be and this is something that developers of these Cardboard Casings must take into consideration. Again, the intent and concept is good, but it still needs to answer some areas which were obviously left out.

Panasonic KX-MC6260 Laser Printer

Now this may sound a bit surprising. Panasonic has never been known to be a player in the printer category but apparently they are trying to do so with this new laser printer offering. The Panasonic KX-MC6260 laser printer is a multi-function printer is designed to give highly professional results, so that small businesses can deliver decent color documents that look as good as something a larger competitor might come up with.

It also has a scan to email function, so if you want to save paper, not to mention postage costs, you can. The scanning software includes optical character recognition so you can more easily convert documents you scan into editable copy.

When you’re copying or faxing, there’s a 50-sheet feeder and with the optional duplex unit (more space required, mind) it will handle two-sided printing as well. Printing is reasonably speedy, at 20 pages a minute for color or black-and-white documents. Since the printer’s resolution is high (1200 x 1200 dots per inch), the results are detailed. The scanner’s resolution is lower, but still highly usable.

Carrying a price tag of £799, Panasonic seems to have added another option in the printer preference line. If you are not that particular about brands, this is a great printer you may want to consider getting.

The Stinger 553 Desktop Dynamo

Small-form factor PCs are coming out these days and the Stinger 553 desktop is a clear example of how these things look. Obviously meant to save on space from the traditional CPU ATX tower casings, the Stinger is something that anyone would want in place of them.

As far as internal components are concerned, the stinger has a list of features that many may find familiar. This includes:

• 1x 1GE-LAN
• 8x USB 2.0 ports
• 4x SATA
• DIO
• 2x RS-232 Serial Ports
• VGA Video
• Keyboard
• Mouse
• PCI Express and USB interfaces

No word on price, but mil spec anything is rarely cheap, there is an SSD and an aluminum alloy chassis to make matters even more expensive. However, for your money you are getting a tiny computer that will work under almost any conditions that can be thrust upon it without making a sound as there are no moving parts. I want one, badly, this has XP Ninja Mk II written all over it.

Certainly this type of small-form factor PC cases provide us a glimpse of the future. This is certainly something many would really find worthy to have soon.

Flexicord Helps you in PC Cable Management

Depending on how many things you have attached on your PC, sprawled cabling is normally a problem for most PC users. Some would tie them up while other would not care at all as long as their PC is functioning. But now with the new Flexicord, you can organize those sprawled cables better and have a more organized place when doing some stuff with your computer.

Flexicord has a thick pipe cleaner that sits alongside the cable, which makes it possible to bend the cord. That will give you a better way to tuck those cables into the shape you need. If you wanted to, you could even wrap this around a couple of other cables to help out the ones that do not have the pipe cleaner inside.

Flexicord comes in several different types, to name a few, they offer USB, S-video, networking cables and HDMI. Of course, since these are special cords, they’ll cost a bit more than a normal cord would.

For $25, this is a good buy to help organize your PC wires and cables. It beats seeing wires entangled which at times could play a critical role as far as prolonging the computer connections reliability.
