It is easy to upgrade your operating system if you think about it. Many people are shifting to the new Microsoft Vista operating systems today, mostly due to the new features and of course the eventual demise of the traditional Windows XP that has been use for some years now. But while this is a welcome development for most people today, it just remains that some computer users are still apprehensive due to potential bugs that are still present in the newly released operating system by Microsoft Corporation.

Such is a trend that is followed by previous releases dating back towards the ancient days of the Windows 98 operating system. They have had their share of issues and it took them some time to become stable. Service packs and some patches were released and mind you, it did not all take a single day to address these problems.

For what it is worth, the Windows XP has stabilized already and most users are having less problems to date. Now comes this new installment by Microsoft Corporation called the Windows Vista series which seems to be another journey towards trying to determine if the OS is stable or not. If not, expect another wave of patches to be released to ensure that people do not get irritated by it.

So if you gather some information on why some people are apprehensive about the new Windows Vista operating system, do not be surprised. They are veterans of the Microsoft operating system circus. People are tired of becoming crash test dummies!

We are all aware that the installment packs that Microsoft releases to its loyal patrons are meant to make sure that glitches in the original operating software does not aggravate and balloon into untoward proportions as far as end-users are concerned. Apparently the last installment, the Windows XP Service Pack 3 seems to be doing the exact opposite; more problems rather than addressing the security functions and updates that they are meant to be.

Such is only normal but considering they should be resolving problems rather than creating ones leads to a lot of factors. These include:

Software or Hardware Conflicts

Corrupted files and installations

Apparently, the latest issue affects only the AMD chipsets that some people are using. We know for a fact that people prefer the usual Intel chipsets but some, perhaps looking at spending less for their computer, are geared towards relegating themselves towards simple computer use.

Normally you would think that these hardware configurations would barely have a bearing on the operating systems installed on your computer. The Windows XP operating system should be biased and surely be free from these problems. However, as it seems, it looks readily apparent that they do have a bearing especially when you talk about complimentary functions from hardware and software configurations that have to be recognized by the operating system in use.

Expect some explanation for these occurrences by Microsoft in the coming days. It is something due to their millions of subscribers all over the world.

As far as design is concerned, size is synonymous to new technology. We can see these affecting parts such as the usual CRT monitors to the now famous LCD monitors. Hard drives have become thinner and memory modules smaller. So with all of the things getting micro bit by bit, you really have to consider the fact that the usual CPU storage can also ride the bandwagon for smaller is better today hoopla.

If you haven’t sent them yet, you will find a lot of new smaller and compact CPU storage design offered in the market. Some are the size of briefcases while others go as far as books. Amazed and awed by them, most people today are emphatic about these newly designed casings since it is really an obvious space saver if you come to think of it. Imagine a wider working space and just the usual LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse and a book-type of a CPU in front of you. Now that is a lot of good working space if you picture it.

The next thing you may have in mind is the matter of upgrading and compatibility. For sure, the parts used for these compact CPU cases have specific designs to which not all parts can accommodate. Normally, this is considered a limitation. But depending on how you use your computer, it is best that you consider the initial specifications prior to purchase so that in the end, you can determine if it is indeed feasible to invest on it or not.

When you get to see the internal parts of your CPU, you are most likely so see a lot of chips, modules and diodes which will surely let you go crazy wondering how anyone in his right mind was able to make all of these pieces operate fluently on the motherboard where they are installed.

Ideally, non-electronic people could care less but if you happen to want to take up computer engineering, these are things that are interconnected which will also make you think a lot. There are the usual and positive and negative connections which have to be soldered properly into the right slot and whenever any of them are installed in them, it is likely that the whole motherboard in use will malfunction.

The motherboard is the life of the computer. If a computer’s motherboard fails to operate, the other computer paraphernalia such as the video cards, sound cards, hard disks and memory modules are sure to become dead. These other components can be replaced easily at any time whenever one of them malfunctions but if they main board of the computer is the one with the problem, it is close to saying you need a whole new computer since it is the heart and soul of the computer.

Lastly, the motherboard is the least expected part that is expected to malfunction. Normally, other parts can have problems along the way. But as far as durability is concerned, rest assured that the motherboard is not among the immediate ones expected to malfunction and needed to be replaced.

This has got to be something that goes on in the mind of any computer expert these days. Just what do hackers get when they successfully hack a computer of another person? For most it can be one of the following:

Fame

Personal Accomplishment

Revenge

Knowledge

Of these four, it is pretty obvious that people have nothing better to do than prove that they are more than just computer geeks. Hacking is not easy. We can find a lot of articles on the web on how we can possibly hack a computer and some of them are indeed useful. But for most, hacking is nothing if you are a hacker who does not aim to intrude the big boys, meaning the large companies who have valuable information needed for their everyday business.

This is not to entice people to take up hacking and become one of the many people who are seriously trying to master this field. But the thing is most technology experts are after fame and satisfaction of that itching question on “What is Hacking?”

Indeed, it does sound crazy and you have nothing really to prove when you try to show off and let the world know that you are a certified hacker. This includes even the simplest form of hacking like getting into another computer unauthorized. But the fact remains that hacker is disliked by the majority. With that in mind, would you want to be included in that elite circle? I doubt if most people will.

Today, most of us are looking for the newly inducted computers that operate efficiently and according to the demands of most programs we run. Graphics designing computers need higher memory and processors to be able to withstand the various commands that are needed to be able to produce the high memory eating drawing and layouts we use with the usual graphics and images software like Adobe and Ulead.

Add to the fray the slowly increasing number of people who have taken up video editing as well and you can just wonder how much power they will require for their computer to be able to take up these facts. It remains that along with the vast upgrades of computer hardware lies a purpose and this is aimed at the demand to satisfy the purpose of computer relying people that are growing in numbers by the day.

This issue is not only towards the graphics designers and video editors of today. Programmers and even the simplest users require high memory modules and dual capable processors to make sure that their computer does not hang. If the processes are not given attention, then you will find that most of them will become be a cause for your computer to slow down. And this is something any computer owner and user really hate.

To date, we have seen computer upgrades in at least a year or two. Rather than succumb to what your enthusiasm allows you to decide on, be practical. Sometimes we upgrade due to our craving for being in with the times. Upgrade for a specific reason and that is at times when you really need to so you can work effectively.

As far as getting the habit of frequently changing themes, you cannot help but wonder if they would be a cause for occasional slowdowns of computers whenever they are in use. One thing we can note is the fact that they eat resources.

Unlike in the early days when you can simply change your desktop with standard themes, the new themes we use in Windows XP and Vista need larger resources. They are enhancements for people who want their computer to look unique and ideal to their eyes each time that they use them. For others however, the only important thing is being able to use your computer and get the work you need done.

For some, it may not matter. New computer specifications today allow them to enjoy the same speed and output although it may defeat the purpose of being faster when it comes to processing and resources used. Some would point towards the way of new operating system needs that slow down a computer and adding new Windows themes only aggravates it as well.

With these things in mind, we cannot avoid using some themes at some point. Perhaps modifying them according to what we want or in part can help avoid such problems in the end. It may become technical for some people who are not used to customizing themes on their desktop but if you want to maximize computer performance, you can do so by picking only some of the elements needed to make your computer stand out and be different from the rest.

In the world of computing, there is a choice between using a standard desktop with that of a mobile notebook. Of the two, there are differences outside that of the usual price of obtaining one. But the decision on which of these two to use depends on the user in the end. What is important is that they are able to use them accordingly without the issue of discomfort which normally hinders performance and output.

Perhaps one feature that we can point out is the issue of use. Take for example the issue of laptops and notebooks. We see a lot of mobile people who are often on the go. While these may make it impossible for them to sit down and try to get some work down on their computer, they just don’t have that luxury. They do not have a specific base of reference and with that in mind, you can imagine the tons of paperwork they have on their desk if they don’t get help.

On the other hand, a desktop is normally recommended for stagnant people. Graphics designers, encoders and programmers would prefer the use of desktops since they need other elements such as references and a stable desk to keep their manner of thinking into place. They are rarely on the go and with that in mind, they need all the stability in the world to make sure that they produce what they want and when they want.

As far as getting the best graphics and video resolution for your computer is concerned, you just have to consider the impact that it will have as far as energy resources to be used by your computer is concerned. Normally, games will be the main reason for placing a higher capacity video card.

Today, we are seeing a lot of high-end video cards that offer up to 256 MB RAM. These are necessary for high requiring graphical games and to ensure smooth quality when they play, these high resolution video cards are desirable. For some however, it would be best to use the standards 128 MB video card if all they care about is simply practical means of using their computer such as word processing or Internet browsing.

There are others who use high-end video cards for graphical designing. While I beg to disagree, everyone knows that when it comes to graphical designs, a Mac is the ideal desktop to use. There are some who use the standard PC but the thing is you will not be able to appreciate the actual colors and the processes running may end up taking a long time to process.

Going back however, built-in video options are really meant to save on cost whenever you buy a new computer. If you can spare a few more bucks, it would be wise to get an independent one since graphical video cards can really take its toll as far as computer resources are concerned.

While most people are thinking of upgrading their computer, it remains that several preventive maintenance measures such as the usual hard drive defragmentation are still reliable if you sometimes wonder why your computer suddenly slows down. Similar to the old practices, we cannot avoid system crashes or sudden cases of lost files owing to unforeseen circumstances such as power failures or forced rebooting.

These instances are the main reasons why lost fragments are often present in computers. Improper shutdown of your computer will always provide problems and most of the time they will be identified once your computer starts to slow down.

We can always take the fast way out. Placing additional memory chips or upgrading to a higher processor is a good idea. But do remember, they are alternatives that you can save on if you think logical. Sometimes the problem is not in the hardware but the people-ware who do not know the standard means of maintaining their computer system.

It would be wise to schedule your defragmentation practices. They can really do a lot to improve your operating system and make sure that you get the best performance for your computer.

Defragmenting your hard drive is the process of putting all the scattered pieces of files back together. Microsoft Windows XP includes a tool that will defragment your hard drive for you. To keep your system performing well, it’s a good idea to have Windows XP automatically defragment your hard drive every week.
