We all want to keep our PC as cool as possible. We put nice aftermarket fans on our CPU to keep it cool and to get the best performance possible. We do the same for our video card GPU, to get the most FPS we can. Your hard drive is no different. It generates as much heat as your CPU if not more. The hdd_HO, or "Ultimate Hard Drive Cooler" will remedy the situation with its massive heatsink and two high output fans. This is one of the few hard drive coolers that I have seen that actually works!
This is what you get in the retail package. The unit has a huge heatsink, bag-o-screws, side rails, two 40mm fans, and a two piece face plate with air filter.
This heatsink is the main reason the hdd_HO works so well. Other hard drive coolers just don't work if they have fans only, without a heatsink. It's like trying to cool your CPU with a fan but no heatsink. It's just kinda pointless.
Here is a shot of the back of the cooler. Notice the retention springs. They put pressure on the heatsink to keep it pressed firmly against the surface of your hard drive.

The hdd_HO comes with an attractive face plate that is actually 2 pieces, and houses an air filter which I think is an extremely nice feature especially with all the dust my computer likes to suck in. But since it's white, I am going to paint it black and gray to match my case.

Behind the face plate, there are two 40mm high output fans which do a nice job of cooling the heatsink and hard drive. Despite the amout of air these little fans push, they are very quiet. I could barely hear them running at all.
Here is a shot from underneath to show hwere the hard drive will actually reside. Once the drive is mounted, the retention springs will hold the heatsink firmly against it to ensure proper heat transfer. Whoever designed this unit definitely put some thought into it. Very impressive retention system!
