More Softmenu III
The options within the Softmenu III BIOS seem almost limitless. There are multiple options for ram, and something I have never seen before - CPU Thermal throttling options, ranging from 12.5% up to 87.5%. ABIT includes some nice protection features as well such as shutting down if the CPU fan fails, and shutting down if the CPU reaches a certain temperature.

Overclocking!
This is what the IT7 MAX2 was made for. ABIT touts the MAX series of motherboards as "Built for Overclockers for Overclockers" and they definitely hit the mark. This board is one of the best overclocking boards I have seen in some time. Here is the test setup we used:- Abit IT7 MAX2 v2.0
- Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz CPU
- 2x 256MB OCZ PC3200 DDR memory
- Vantec Aeroflow TMD CPU Cooler
- ABIT Siluro Ti4200 video card
- Maxtor 60GB 7200 RPM hard drive
I chose the P4 Celeron 2.0Ghz because it's cheap and is a good overclocker that most people can afford. 1Ghz overclocks on stock cooling are not unheard of with this chip.
2.81Ghz came and went with no problem at all. Posted, booted, ran completely stable and ran Sisoft Sandra without a hitch.
2.91Ghz was a walk in the park as well. So far, we have a 910Mhz overclock on air cooling. Not too shabby in any book! Let's step it up some more...
2.97Ghz posted and booted as well. At this point, we had to increase the core voltage to 1.75 volts and are running at 147FSB but completely stable! The next logical step is to shoot for 3Ghz.
We stepped up the core voltage to 1.85 to get the chip to post at 3Ghz, but it posted.
...and promptly crashed.
So after all was said and done, we ended up with good stable overclock at 2.97Ghz. This kind of overclock is not possible on many motherboards out there. It took some serious tweaking to get the chip to run rock solid at this speed with air cooling, due in no small part to the Softmenu overclocking options that ABIT is so well known for.
