MouseWax Anti-friction Liquid
Review Date: February 23, 2003

There are a LOT of serious gamers out there in the world today. The PC and console gaming industry has become a multi-billion
dollar business, and I am definitely a contributor to that chunk of change. I don't know how much I have spent personally in the last
few years on new video cards, gaming mice, high-end mouse pads, and high-res monitors to get the best gaming experience
possible - not to mention all the games themselves that I buy. No doubt you are probably not much different if you are reading this review. You know that when you jump into that game of Counter-Strike, BF1942, Quake3, or whatever game you dig lately - that you
want to go in there and clean house. There's nothing quite like a pinpoint accurate rail right through your opponent's face, or a
dead-on bomb right into Charlie's spawnpoint. So, you got all the gear to get some accurate fragging action going, but is there anything
else that can be done? Absolutely...

Chris Shea, owner of Shea Interprises is an inventor and avid gamer. He, like many other gamers had the problem of "mouse drag",
or too much friction between the mouse and mouse pad. This of course is probably the leading cause of inaccurate shots, and in my
case, many plane crashes in Battlefield 1942.
When Chris first approached me about MouseWax, I was a little skeptical but I'm always willing to try something new, especially if
will improve my game because I am admittedly a horrible shot most of the time.
After trying MouseWax for a few weeks, I gotta tell you... this stuff does work! The concept is pretty simple really - reduce friction to
make your mouse movements more accurate. MouseWax definitely accomplishes this, and gaming is now much more enjoyable, and
yes, I definitely get more frags now that my shots are more accurate and I crash WAY fewer planes than I did. Flying is like
glass!

What MouseWax is:
- MouseWAX ® is technically NOT a true “WAX” ( petroleum & animal based product ) as people might think.
- MouseWAX ® is unique, in that it is inorganic in nature and contains -NO- PETROCHEMICALS!
- MouseWAX ® is a clear liquid film that goes on wet and is used DRY... Unlike other things people use now.
- Because MouseWAX ® is used DRY, it won’t collect dust, lint and greases from your hands.
- Because it Is non-toxic... It will NOT harm you, your pads, the Environment, your clothes and your pets!
- MouseWAX ® has no harsh fumes or offensive odor ... it is a space age - WATER BASED FORMULA.
- MouseWAX ® may be used on all types of plastic mouse pads, including all types of GAMING PADS:
- RATPADZ, fUnc 1030, EVERGLIDE, Rhinolin Deskpads etc...
- It is not recommended for cloth type optical pads. (not good for gaming anyway)
- MouseWAX ® will work with ALL types of MICE: Optical, Ball mice, and it will NOT AFFECT OPTICAL TRACKING!
- MouseWAX ® won’t peel, flake, discolor or fade, it lasts and lasts and lasts...
- Safe to use on mouse feet AND the mouse pad. In fact, we RECOMMEND treating the feet for MAXIMUM effect!
- Not Recommended for use OVER Mouse Skatez!
- The liquid Dries clear in minutes after treatment, and may be used immediately.
- One treatment lasts for about a week on most pads, and a few days on the mouse feet (depending on use).

Application:
Applying MouseWax is simple. Chris recommends using a about "dime" puddle near the center and using a sponge to apply the MouseWax to the mousing surface and a cotton swab on the
mouse "feet". I used one of my wife's make-up sponges to get an even coating.

I learned very quickly that is important to apply MouseWax to the "mouse feet" as well. This doubles the slippery effect, and decreases
mouse drag even more. So be sure you don't forget this step.

Testing and Performance:
I tested MouseWax on 3 different surfaces and 2 different mice. I have 2 of the recommended mouse pads; RatPadz mousing surface and the new fUnc 1030 Competition Mousing Surface. I also did a test on the surface of my desk which is nearly a perfectly flat surface, just for the kicks.
The candidates:

The first surface to get the Extreme gaming torture test was Kyle Bennet's RatPadz gaming pad. I have had this one for a few years, so its a little worn but it serves it purpose and still keeps kicking. After the initial application to the pad and mouse feet, the "slickness" factor was immediately apparent. The RatPad that I had been using for years had new life, and I was in disbelief of how smooth the mouse movement was. It's a night and day difference!
I played many games of BF1942 over the next few days to get a feel for the difference. If you play BF1942 at all, you probably like
flying the airplanes. Everyone whores the planes, so my guess is that everyone likes to fly. Anyway, after the application of MouseWax
I immediately noticed how much smoother the control was during flight, and this allowed me to have much improved precision
in dogfights and bombing. I was now sold on this stuff - MouseWax really DID work!

The next surface I tested on was my desk. I had to clean it off first because I'm such a slob, but I did finally get it cleaned off and applied some MouseWax to the surface of the desk, just to see if it would have the same effect that it did on the RatPadz surface, and sure enough it did! It was not quite as slick, but it did work.
Lastly, I bought a fUnc 1030 Competition mousing surface. This is where MouseWax really shined. The fUnc pad is already quite slick
from the factory, but apply a little MouseWax and you have the perfect combination for a super slick, super accurate mousing surface!
The results on the fUnc surface were absolutely incredible. My shot accuracy and flying were MUCH improved, even more so than the
other 2 surfaces tested. Each were great, even the desk top, but really you have to experience it to really believe the improvement!
Mice:
I tested MouseWax on 2 different mice; a Microsoft Intellemouse Optical, and a Logitech Optical mouse.

After playing several games with each of the mice, I still couldn't tell which one worked better. I was hoping to distinguish which mouse worked better in this application, but I have to say that it's too close to call. Each performed almost equally, but if I had to pick a winner, I think it would have to be the Microsoft Optical mouse, but only because it's my choice of mice in the first place.
Applying MouseWax to the plastic mouse feet is a very important step in proper use, and maximum effect - so don't forget to do it!

There are a few important things to note about this product. First, it is non-toxic and water based. That means that if junior decides to
take a swig it most likely won't cause any harm, although it's a good idea to keep it out of reach of little ones anyway. Secondly, after
the stuff dries it leaves no residue and doesn't peel or flake off. Almost like it isn't even there, but the slick surface tells otherwise!
MouseWax is not oily, and doesn't make a mess. Its just like water - once it dries, it is transparent. Very nice!

Conclusion:
MouseWax is one of the more innovative products that I have seen lately. It truly serves it's purpose, and does it well.
If you are a serious gamer, you need to try this out. You will be amazed at how much more precise you will be. Even if you aren't
a gamer, I would still recommend you try MouseWax to reduce friction because less friction means less work, and less strain on
your hand and wrist. But, MouseWax is made with the gamer in mind, so if you would like to really improve your game and give yourself an ego boost, you need to give MouseWax a try. I personally will be keeping a few bottles on hand at all times from now on. I am a LAN party regular so anything that improves my game is important. If you game, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
MouseWax from Shea Interprises is an outstanding product, and PCExtreme gives it our best possible rating - 5X's!
