Here’s a trick to Enable a detailed logon, logoff and shutdown status messages

Instead of the usual dull default logon, logoff and shutdown status messages, you can actually make your own status message to give a detailed info what’s going on. If you ever wondered why your logon process if taking so long, then these messages turned on you can see why, telling you about the specific tasks Windows Vista is executing.

To enable detailed status messages on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the start button and key in gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
  2. When the Local Group Policy Editor has loaded, navigate through Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates and select System.
  3. Locate the Verbose vs normal status messages policy, right click and select Properties.
  4. Select Enabled and hit OK.
