Studying the PC Upgrade Options

For sure, most of us will not be content with the current PC configuration that we have. Depending on the length of time that we have had our personal computers, we are bound to want more in terms of speed and features of personal computers offered in the market. But the real question is what in particular do we look for?

There are a lot of options we can think of today. Ranging from processor chips, memory modules and video cards, it may seem that the possibilities are endless. But considering that these upgrades carry costs, it would be wise to determine what you really need. There are some who go for overkill specs and traditionally these would not be put to full use. Some only need a computer for word processing or browsing the web. So how sophisticated of a specification would you need?

Others tend to be drawn into tempting sales talks from PC vendors. For example, you would seek a certain specs and the usual thing you would hear is for an extra couple of bucks, you can get this higher version. Some do it to help a buyer decide and get more value for their money while others just want a better sale. When these factors set in, you are bound to go for the higher priced and supposed higher specs.

But in the end, it all depends on you. You are the buyer and depending on your sound judgment, it will be you who will be paying for it. Think wisely and broadly and work on a budget.

Save Energy by Using the Power Options

After you have successfully installed your Windows Operating System such as Windows XP, most settings are placed on default. Normally included in this would be the auto shut off options for your hard disk and your video card. Depending on your preference, they can be good power savers and can help a lot in reducing the stress of computer parts concerned when you happen to leave your desktop or laptop idle for some time.

But overall, they are meant to help safeguard you computer as far as leaving it open for quite some time. The computer parts such as your video card and your hard drive are taking heat when they are operational. Unless you are the type that needs the computer to be operational most of the time due to instances such as long hour downloading of large files like videos, it would be wise to save on the wear and tear as well as the energy you are consuming. Energy in the sense that we are all aware of the fast dilapidating of our energy sources and each small help counts a lot.

For the techie freaks these days, many would turn these options off for their own reason. One is that they don’t want to go through the trouble of having to tap a key on their keyboards which may take some time to refresh and function as well. Besides, for these people, if one of the two, the hard disk or the video card, conks out, getting a new one of higher specs can be pretty much rewarding.

Resolution Requirements: Do You Notice it at All?

For video cards, gone are the usual 32 and 64 MB cards. The lowest you will find in the market today are the 128 MB video cards. Today’s video card manufacturers such as NVIDIA know for a fact that the wise computer geek would focus a lot on the video cards to satisfy requirements for certain applications and games that most PC users are sure to be installing. But the thing is, do you notice the difference at all?

Computers are normally made for browsing the web, playing games, music listening and spreadsheet creation. Multimedia entertainment is the latest craze but seriously, would you often watch movies and film clips on your computer? Perhaps if you don’t have a Television or a trusty DVD player it may be possible. But normally you would only use a computer for administrative tasks.

So when you install these high-end video cards, would you notice it at all? Or would it be all a psychological aspect of appreciating a higher capacity video card?

The resolution and bit rate can be seen when you play high-resolution games such as Warcraft or other new games in the market. But as far as watching videos, the best recourse is to still watch them through actual TV sets. With that said, why are people inclined to watch via their computer?

TV options are only bonuses but should not be a regular requirement for PC options. Video cards come in higher specs these days but sometimes you have to wonder what a 1 Gigabyte video card would have over actual television.

Know the limits of your PC. You can watch TV programs on your computer but don’t expect it to be better than modern television. Video cards are aimed at graphics and games. But as far as resolution is concerned, take note of the difference. It may not matter at all.
