Testing:

Since Corsair TwinX 3700 is marketed toward high performance and overclocking, that is what we are going to focus on in this review. I want to point something out here. The highest memory standard that is currently supported on any motherboard is DDR400 (PC3200). This means that if you do not overclock your system, it is absolutely pointless to have memory faster than PC3200 in your box. A common misconception made by inexperienced PC enthusiasts and gamers is that if they put faster memory in their rig, they will get better performance. That is not necessarily true. A memory module's speed rating is what it is capable of doing, not what it will automatically run at when you install it.

With that being said, to take full advantage of the performance that TwinX1024 3700 memory is capable of, we have to overclock our system FSB speed by 33MHz (66MHz DDR) just to achieve the "stock" speed rating of this memory, and it needs to be run in a Dual DDR motherboard in dual DDR mode.

Test rigs:

As I mentioned before, the AMD Athlon system just isn't designed to take advantage of the full memory bandwidth potential that Corsair's TwinX1024 3700 can deliver. So the memory bandwidth results yielded from this rig was less than spectacular compared to the two Intel Pentium4 based systems.

Now we will concentrate on the two systems that can take full advantage of this memory; the P4 3.0C/DFI Lanparty 875Pro, and the P4 3.0C/ABIT IC7-MAX3.

This is a control run at 3GHz on the DFI system. The ABIT system turned out roughly the same numbers. The difference between the Athlon and P4 system is already painfully apparent. The P4 loves the extra bandwidth dished out by the Dual DDR setup, and is even begging for more. So, let's push the envelope and see what Corsair's TwinX1024 3700 can do!
